Project started October 2023,
Last week we patched the chain cutout on the right side of the bike (this fender was on Adele's Sportster before)
so this week we continue modifying it to fit the swingarm Knuckle. Like before we used a wooden beam between seat and ceiling, so that we can raise the table to see how low we can mount the fender without it hitting the tire.

The fender was actually a bit too narrow for the 170 tire so we cut it in half and added a tapered insert. The idea is to trim the sides at the back and extend the sides at the front, so there is no clearance issue at the back. We also added some temporary mounting tabs so we can check the fender in the frame in the same position each time.

The insert was tackwelded in place first, then after grinding those almost flat the whole thing was planished before final welding. Then after final welding more planishing. The idea is to not make the metal thinner in the welded areas, so all sheetmetal must line up perfectly.
Next we will make the final mounts and then trim and extend the sides
